Looking for the best things to do in Diani? Discover why skydiving over the Indian Ocean is a bucket-list must. Flight details, views, and landing tips included!
There are many ways to see the beauty of Kenya’s coastline—by camel, by glass-bottom boat, or by a lazy stroll on the sand. But if you want to see the true scale of the Indian Ocean’s majesty, there is only one way to do it: dropping from 12,000 feet.
The Ascent: Anticipation in the Air
The adventure began in a small Cessna aircraft. As we climbed steadily above the coastline, the hum of the engine vibrated through my chest. Looking out the window, the world began to transform. The Indian Ocean was no longer just water; it was a sprawling canvas of turquoise and deep sapphire, fringed by the blindingly white sands of Diani Beach.
The Leap: 200 km/h of Pure Adrenaline
“Ready?” my instructor shouted over the wind. I gave a shaky thumbs-up, my heart hammering against my ribs. We shuffled towards the open door, and suddenly, the world became a roar of rushing air. I didn’t jump; I was simply pulled into the sky.

The first few seconds of freefall were pure, adrenaline-fueled chaos. At 200 km/h, the wind felt solid, like a physical force holding me up. But then, the initial shock faded, replaced by an incredible sense of weightlessness. I could see the curve of the earth on the horizon and the tiny, palm-fringed resorts shrinking below. To the west, the Shimba Hills stood in lush green contrast to the glittering coral reefs stretching out to the sea.
The Canopy: A Silence Like No Other
With a sudden, firm tug, the parachute deployed. The roar vanished instantly, replaced by an eerie, breathtaking silence.
Under the canopy, Diani looked like a postcard brought to life. We spiraled gently downward, watching the kite surfers look like tiny, colorful dots on the waves. The air felt warmer as we descended, smelling of salt and tropical heat.

The Landing: Back to Earth
The landing was a soft, expert slide into the powdery sand right in front of the beach bar. As I unbuckled my harness, my legs felt like jelly, but my head was still in the clouds. There is no better way to see the edge of Africa than falling towards it at terminal velocity.
